مصطلحات الملابس Clothes Idioms

جميعنا يعلم أهمية معرفة الكثير من المفردات كي نتمكن من التحدث باللغة الانجليزية و من فهم أي نص مكتوب أو أي مقطع سماعي. إلا أن القليل يعلم أهمية المصطلحات The Idioms كما أن الكثير من متعلمي اللغة الانجليزية لا يعرفون الكثير عنها كما أنهم لا يستخدمونها في محادثتهم. سنوضح في هذا المقال نوع محدد من المصطلحات وهو المصطلحات التي تتضمن استخدام مفردات تشير لى الملابس.

من الجدير بالذكر ان معنى المصطلح لا يعتمد على الترجمة الحرفية بل إن المعنى يجب أن يحفظ من خلال التكرار. إليكم بعض المصطلحات التي تحتوي كلمات تدل على الملابس.

قائمة من مصطلحات الملابس 

1. at the drop of a hat  في الحال

He will stop working and help you at the drop of a hat if you ask him politely

2. burn a hole in one’s pocket  النقود تتبدد بسرعة.

The money that he made at his part-time job is a hole in his pocket and he will probably spend it quickly

3. bee in one’s bonnet  فكرة غريبة

She has a bee in her bonnet about going to live on an island and starting a herb farm

4. bet one’s boot يراهن بكل ما لديه.

I will bet my boots that he is not able to save up enough money to come with us to Greece this winter

5. fine- tooth comb عناية وحذر فائق

We went over the room with a fine-tooth comb but were unable to find the missing credit cards

6. if the shoe fits wear it ما ينطبق على الجميع ينطبق على الفرد

you shouldn’t criticize others for something that you would do yourself. Remember, if the shoes fits wear it.

7. keep one’s shirt on يهدأ

keep your shirt on. you shouldn’t get so excited about small problems.

8. stuffed shirt شخص رسمي جدا

i don’t want to invite him to go with us because he is a stuffed shirt and not very interesting to spend time with.

9. tighten one’s belt يقتصد في عيشه

if we want to go on a holiday to Europe this year we will have to tighten our belts to save money.

10. lose one’s shirt يخسر ماله كله

He lost his shirt gambling and now is in serious financial difficulty

11. put on one’s thinking cap يفكر مليا”

I will put on my thinking cap and try to find a solution to the problem by next week

12. up his sleeve ورقة رايحة

I don’t know he has up his sleeve but I am sure that he is planning to say something at the meeting

13. in one’s shoe في مكانه

I would hate to be in in his shoes now that he has lost his job.

14. dress up يلبس أفضل ما لديه

I decided to dress up to go to dinner on Saturday night.
